IT IS unknown how the coronavirus crisis will impact one of Winchester's biggest shops.
In a recent announcement, Debenhams said that four stores will not be reopening after the lockdown ends β including the landmark Southampton branch.
The store, in Queensway in the city centre, had 106 staff and shut after the company was unable to negotiate a deal with landlords.
But nothing has been said about the branch in Winchester High Street, an area which is known for its high business rents.
The Chronicle has also contacted the department store's head office, but has not received a response.
At the other end of the High Street, part of O'Neill's pub has been put up for sale.
A new landlord can now buy half the property through RightMove.
"The pub is not up for sale it is just half of the building," said an O'Neill's spokesperson.
"We lease the buildings off two landlords β itβs actually two buildings and one is selling. This has been on the market for some time but will not affect any aspect of the business."
