THE chief executive of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said they have 300 volunteers working with them in the hospital in a variety of roles.
Alex Whitfield said: “We have had many volunteers in the hospital. We are doing a direct volunteer recruitment campaign.
“There are 300 volunteers working with us in the hospital in a variety of roles, to making cups of teas for people, meeting and greeting and showing the way.
The chief executive said the trust has a “brilliant group of dementia volunteers” who are specially trained to support patients with dementia.
“A number of volunteers in the hospital are in the vulnerable group, and they have not been able to help us, but others have come forward to fill the gap.
“We are always open for more volunteers, actively recruiting and training them. We put them through a checking process, provide training and support. We would not set a cap on it.”
