A SOUTHAMPTON driver had his vehicle seized by police after he told them he was on his way to sort out his car insurance.

He was one of around 90 people stopped by officers as they headed towards Bournemouth's beaches during the coronavirus lockdown on Bank Holiday Monday.

When officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team checked to see if he had insurance, he claimed that was the purpose of his journey.

A No Excuse spokesman said: "You can't drive to Liverpool Victoria to take out insurance."

A ticket was issued and the vehicle seized from the stopping pont on the A338 Spur Road in Bournemouth..

Officers also stopped a man who had driven more than 200 miles from Rotherham to see his girlfriend - he was turned around and escorted out of the county.

Another motorist was sent home after driving around 100 miles to look at coastal beauty sport Durdle Door.
