ROMSEY motorists are being warned of diversions this morning after a water main burst on an A road.

Drivers were alerted to the damaged water main at 9.17am in Greatbridge Road, according to Hampshire County Council (HCC).

Now Southern Water has closed the road in both directions between Fishlake Meadows and Old Salisbury Lane in a bid to repair the 12 inch water main.

A spokesperson from HCC said the diversion will be "via Fishlake Meadows, Cupernham Lane, Belbins and Yokesford Hill".

A spokesperson from Southern Water said: "Our teams are investigating a burst from a 12 inch water main at Greatbridge Road, Romsey SO51.

"We are making repairs today but reinstatement may take slightly longer than usual as our usual source of road surfacing is closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

"The road is closed in both directions where we are working and a diversion is in place; we apologise for any inconvenience this is causing.

"We ask that to keep our team safe that any passers-by keep social distance in line with government rules.”
