SHOPS, schools, events venues and more have been heavily impacted by the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK with many choosing, or being forced, to shut their doors as a result.

Below is a list of known shop closures in Winchester:

  • Boutique independent dress agency The Clothes Line has decided to shut its doors.

Hampshire Chronicle:

  • Zizzi and Ask Italian have both temporarily closed in Winchester in the face of the coronavirus outbreak. Azzurri Group, which runs the Italian chains as well as Coco di Mama, confirmed that its 300-plus sites will shut their doors from today.
  • Ecco in High Street has followed suit and has locked up. It is not known when it will re-open.
  • Vegetarian café and deli Rawberry, in St George’s Street, has closed this week.
  • Although Reeve the Baker, in High Street, remains open the chain has made the decision to close its upstairs café.
  • Forte Kitchen also announced on Tuesday that it would be closing for the foreseeable future. A notice on their window reads: “We have taken this decision with heavy hearts but with social responsibility at the forefront of our minds. This is naturally devastating for our teams and their families."

Hampshire Chronicle:

  • Brasserie Blanc, in Jewry Street, has also decided to close its doors 
  • Fashion and Homeware store Laura Ashley has filed intentions to appoint administrators. It blamed the closure on a "significant" fall in trade following the coronavirus outbreak.
  • All 531 Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK are being shut down leaving almost 3,000 jobs at risk. Owners Dixons Carphone said it hopes to find roles for less than 40 per cent of those affected. The company said it had not yet seen a large hit from the coronavirus crisis across its core chain apart from supply issues but is “preparing for one”.
