A TEST Valley-based secondary school has confirmed a partial closure due to the Coronavirus.

The Test Valley School, located in Stockbridge will be closed for the rest of the week for Year eight and nine pupils.

The news comes as the government announced social contact should be minimised.

The school is planning to open on Monday as usual, unless anything changes nationally.

In a statement, Ms Wilden, head of school said: "The School will be closed to pupils in Year 8 and 9 on Wednesday, 18th March, Thursday 19th March and Friday 20th March.

"Some families are in receipt of Free School Meals: if you are affected by the closure we will be making food available for your child to be collected from school.

"All trips for the remainder of this half-term are now cancelled. We will liaise with you later this term with regards refunds. We are not currently in a position to deal with requests for refunds on an individual basis.

"All sporting fixtures are also cancelled until further notice."

Test Valley School has been contacted for comment.

In Romsey, The Romsey School have also updated their situation in regards to COVID-19.

They have not announced plans to close but are putting the following measures in place.

In a statement from headteacher, Colm McKavangh, it said: "All assemblies are cancelled

"I am advising staff and students not to participate in extra-curricular events, for example, music concerts, where infection can be easily transmitted.

"To minimise transmission risks in the changing rooms, students may wear PE kit all day when they have core PE.

"Trips, residential visits and work experience: the Department for Education is not currently advising against domestic school trips. We are monitoring the situation and will update you as we receive information;

"Foreign trips – the Government has said that school parties will not be allowed to travel abroad. We have no indication as to how long this embargo will be in place but at the very least, it will affect the Iceland trip at Easter. We will give you further information as and when we receive it."
