A CAMPUS chef at Winchester University will be running 35 miles in aid of Sports Relief.

Mark Brooks will complete a number of challenges – which add up to nine miles longer than a marathon – around the city on Friday (March 13).

The six challenges all start from the university and the first will finish at Prince’s Mead School, the second at Shawford Station via the Itchen Navigation, the Science Centre on the third, the fourth will finish at St Catherine’s Hill, the fifth at Water Meadows, and the last at Bar End Sports Stadium.

Mark started running in January 2014 when his sister invited him to join the Southampton parkrun and then joined his local running group the Fareham Crusaders.

On his fundraising page, Mark said: "I puffed and panted my way through races and club training until my asthma medication was fine tuned. With increasing speed, stamina and confidence I gradually entered more races of increasing lengths including a couple of marathons culminating in the London Marathon last year which I finished in a time of three hours 48 minutes.

"I love my bling and to receive a well designed finisher’s medal with a good ribbon is the icing on the cake of a great race. But as far as Sports Relief is concerned at the end of my 6th challenge on Friday 13th March to know that I have raised money though doing something which I love will make it all worth while."
