WINCHESTER MP Steve Brine has offered his support to Oliver’s Battery Primary after a coronavirus alert at the school.

The former health minister has spoken to headteacher Carly Redfern after parents received a letter from the school stating that two pupils are currently in quarantine amid concerns that they may have been exposed to the virus.

The letter sent on Tuesday said that the children had travelled in a taxi previously used by person with a confirmed diagnosis of the virus.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Speaking yesterday, Mr Brine said: “The advice today for Hampshire is no different to yesterday, it is to contain, as part, that is the key thing, as part of a structured ordered plan.

“Oliver’s Battery school have done exactly the right thing and I am supporting them through what is a very worrying time. I have offered to speak to the families involved. They will be feeling pretty worried and isolated.

“There is no suggestion that they should be closing the school.”

It comes as a person from Hampshire has become the first from the county to contract the COVID-19 virus – which has killed more than 3,000 worldwide.

It is unclear whether the unnamed person is linked with the pupils in self-isolation from primary school.
