ONE of the best-known genealogists, Hugh Peskett, has died aged 87.
Winchester man Mr Peskett was the family historian who tracked down the Irish ancestry of US president Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. He personally presented the family tree to Mr Reagan and his wife Nancy in 1984.
More recently his sleuthing confirmed the rights to the chiefship of the Buchanan clan in Scotland.
His skills were in demand from lawyers involved in settling legal issues to do with ancestry and rights to land.
Mr Peskett, a father of one, of Woodfield Drive, was the husband of Pamela Peskett a long-serving Liberal Democrat city councillor and former Mayor of Winchester.
In a death announcement his family said he died peacefully on February 24.
His funeral service will be tomorrow, Wednesday March 3, at Test Valley Crematorium, Romsey at 3.15pm.
