A THIEF has been made to pay more than £200 after stealing just over £50 worth of goods from shops in the high street.
Ryan Smith, of Mercury Drive, appeared at Basingstoke magistrates court earlier this month where he pleaded guilty to two counts of theft.
The charges related to incidents on February 6 and 7 when he stole a Hugo Boss gift set worth £28 from Superdrug, before taking a £25 North Face hat from Millets the following day.
On Wednesday the 37-year-old returned to court where magistrates fined him £160 for both offences.
He was also made to pay compensation of £28 and £25 for each of the items, taking his total bill to £213.
