A SIX-FIGURE programme of revamping Winchester play areas has been agreed by the town forum.
The city councillors, who represent the city wards, have backed an £830,000 five-year programme to improve eight play areas.
Council leader Lucille Thompson told the town forum: "I think our play areas is something Winchester does really well."
Cllr Jamie Scott praised the MUGA (multi-use games area) in lower Stanmore and said similar MUGAs should be provided elsewhere.
This year the two areas to benefit will be Abbey Gardens, complete refurbishment, £120,000; and Thurmond Crescent, Stanmore, replacement of toddler equipment, £40,000.
Abbey Gardens was opened in 1993 with a partial refurbishment in 2002.
