EMERGENCY services rushed to rescue a woman from a Southampton river this morning.

Crews from Calshot Lifeboat Station, Hill Head Coastguard Rescue Team and South Central Ambulance Service were called to the casualty located in the River Itchen at Weston Parade.

The teams were alerted to the woman just past midnight, who was recovered to the shore at 2am.

A spokesperson from South Central Ambulance Service said: "This was a concern for welfare incident with the patient taken to University Hospital Southampton for further assessment.

"She was not in deep water and did not become submerged at any point."
