FIREFIGHTERS issued a warning to a homeowner after ‘smoking materials’ caused a fire at a block of flats in Winchester.
Crews from Winchester and Eastleigh were called to Octavia Hill, where one of the first-floor flats was alight, at 5.48pm last night (Monday).
A service spokesperson said that a small fire had broken out involving a worktop and smoking materials in the kitchen.
The property owner had left the flat before fire crews arrived.
“Firefighters fitted additional smoke alarms to the property and advice was given to the owner,” the spokesperson added.
Crews returned to their station at 6.38pm.
