SUNRISE of Winchester hosted an art exhibition to showcase resident artwork.

The care home on Stockbridge Road, recently put on the show and craft fayre to highlight the artistic talent of its residents.

On Friday December 6, Deputy Mayor of Winchester Cllr Patrick Cunningham opened the exhibition for VIPs, which included residents and their families.

Following this, over the weekend, members of the public were invited to enjoy the exhibition at the community’s very own craft fayre.

Thirty pieces of artwork were specially created by residents in their regular art group.

Louise Murkin, Activities Coordinator at Sunrise of Winchester said: “To see the residents overcome personal challenges and learning new techniques week after week is so rewarding.

“I am so proud of all the hard work the residents have put into the exhibition. You’d be surprised by how many residents didn’t know how to paint before moving to Sunrise.”

Derek Hatton, a resident at the Sunrise of Winchester community, was so inspired by the exhibition, that he has joined the art group.

Art workshops are just one of the many weekly activities enjoyed by residents at Sunrise of Winchester.

Residents can also get involved in Zumba, Armchair Exercise, Music Circle groups and lots more.
