IT is a tradition that stretches far back in time.
Nick Bucknall, Tower Captain, completes the task of fitting leather muffles to the clappers of the cathedral’s 14 bells in preparation for the traditional ringing out of the old year (and this decade) with half muffled ringing before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Then, with the muffles removed the bells will ring out in full voice marking the start of 2020 and a new decade!
