WEEKE Primary School is fundraising towards a new pirate ship and activity trail in the playground.

With the school-parent association the plan is to update the playground.

The total cost is £24,000 and a Go Fund Me initiative is aiming to raise £15,000.

The plan is to install the new play feature in the summer of 2020. It is expected to have a life of 20 years so would be enjoyed by thousands of children.

Rob Harrison, school business manager, said: “The existing pirate ship is well-loved by all ages in our school and is starting to wear out, we would love to be in a position to replace this for children now and for many more in the future to enjoy and love.”

A parent added: “My children love playing on the pirate ship, and it would be fantastic to see something to replace it for the children to enjoy for many years to come.”

The fundraising follows the association’s focus over the last few years to improve the playground to ensure it is exciting.
