CHILDREN from Maples Day Nursery in Winchester were delighted to receive a visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, following the end of a project on safety.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Hatherley Road, Fulflood, firefighters spoke to pre-schoolers about the equipment used to extinguish flames, before showing them the protective clothing worn and giving a guided tour of the fire engine.
As part of their project, children conducted health and safety checks around the building, identifying fire exits and ensuring extinguishers were undamaged, as well as discussing what to do in the event of an emergency.
Maples Day Nursery Third in Charge, Lou Rowe said: “We are so grateful to Winchester Fire Station for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and visit.
“The children were fascinated to learn more about the fire service and now have a much greater understanding of the important work they do within our community.”
