COLIN Firth has split from his wife Livia after 22 years of marriage, it has been announced.

The actor, who is originally from Winchester, announced the split in a joint statement through their publicist.

In the statement, the pair say they "maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children".

Firth, 59, famously starred in British romantic comedy Love Actually and box office hit Bridget Jones's Diary.

He has recently starred in the Kingsman film series.

Firth has won a number of awards including an Academy Award, for his role in The King's Speech, a Golden Globe Award, two BAFTA Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Firth was born in Grayshott in Hampshire and grew up in Winchester, attending Montgomery of Alamein Secondary School, now Kings' School, and later Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh.
