WINCHESTER Cathedral’s Christmas tree lights have been switched on during a short ceremony, as part of the annual blessing of the Christmas tree.

The Very Rev Catherine Ogle, Dean of Winchester, blessed the tree before the lights were switched on by Maxwell Trenier, aged four.

Boy choristers then sang carols by the Christmas Tree.

The Christmas tree will remain on display at the West End of the cathedral throughout December, and visitors can hear the choristers singing at a variety of services.

On December 17, 18 and 20, carol services will be held at 6.30pm.

The first service is ticketed, with priority booking for the Cathedral Community. The second and third services are not ticketed and all are welcome.

On Christmas Eve, at 11am and 3pm, there will be dress up Nativity services.

At 5.30pm, the crib will be blessed.
