NHS staff from across Hampshire wowed the audience with their skills and raised almost £1,000 for charity during a unique talent show.

NHS’ Got Talent saw staff from healthcare trusts across Hampshire take to the stage in front of a packed house at Aldworth School, in Basingstoke. It was a real variety show, with acts including singers, dancers, a magician and a baton twirler.

The judging panel, made up of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust chairman, Steve Erskine, chief executive, Alex Whitfield, and company secretary, Lauren Wagner, as well as Joshua Dodd from Winchester Radio, selected vocalist Megan Dixon as their winner.

Megan, who works as an administrator at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, claimed the top prize with her rendition of John Legend’s Ordinary People.

The audience also got the opportunity to vote for their favourite act. They chose Deepam Team, an Asian dance group made up of nurses, radiologists and researchers from Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Deepam Team were placed second by the judges, who also awarded third place to vocalist Corrine Hutchins, who is an administrator at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and was accompanied on guitar by her husband, Mark.

The evening was compared by drag queen Miss Dixie Norm, while comedian Russell Howard welcomed everyone to the show with a pre-recorded video.

Sharon Watson, who organised the show, said: “It was a fantastic night and the acts were all amazing. I would like to thank everyone who helped to make it happen, particularly the performers, Select Brief and Truman Gough, who provided all the lighting and sound equipment at no cost, Miss Dixie Norm and the judges.

“In addition to selling tickets to the show, we held a raffle, with the top prize being two tickets to see the Russell Howard Hour, with the opportunity to meet the man himself afterwards. We have raised just over £900, which will go to the Winchester Hospice appeal.
