MORE of these signs will soon appear around the Hampshire countryside to show the boundaries of the South Downs National Park.

Its planning committee has voted to approve the signs across the park which stretches from Winchester to East Sussex.

The sites include the B3047 Alresford Road junction for Itchen Stoke, at West Tisted and the B2177 at Lower Upham, near Bishop's Waltham.

The signs will be erected in 2020 and be similar to ones already in place such as one on the A31 Alresford Road near the Percy Hobbs roundabout.

They are either made or iron a or wood and iron. The sweet chestnut wood comes from the Stansted Estate in the park and the iron reflects the metal industry in the park between the 17th and 19th centuries.

The signs may not be on the precise boundary but have been chosen for the sense of arrival in the park.
