ALL seven Hampshire Hospices met to accept the cheque for £21,000 from Voices for Hospices Choir (VFH) at the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market last Thursday.
This was as the result of the VFH Choir concert of Elijah in the Cathedral on October 12.
Receiving the cheques are representatives from Countess of Brecknock, Countess Mountbatten, Naomi House and Jacksplace, Oakhaven, Rowans, St Michael's and Winchester Hospices. The Dean of Winchester, the Very Rev Catherine Ogle, and Lawrie McMenemy (Patron of VfH Choir) were there to oversee the donation, as were some of the team of the Voices for Hospices Choir.
Winchester Cathedral offered its facilities free for the Elijah concert. More than 500 singers plus orchestra and a stellar line-up of soloists performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah in a packed church.
The Nave was re-set sideways with orchestra and soloists by Wykeham’s Chantry and the huge choir flanked either side. The large audience squeezed into remaining spaces like the north aisle.
