A WINNING crown has officially been awarded to Indian restaurant Kuti’s Brasserie, who won the Best Spice Restaurant in the South East at the British Curry Awards.

The award has been added to a line of many awards presented to the restuarant on The Royal Pier, having previously won Restaurant of the Year last year and the prestigious Tiffin Cup 2019.

After joining three other shortlisted Hampshire restaurants to attend what is known as the ‘Oscars’ of the curry industry this month, their win was announced on the 15th anniversary of the globally-recognised curry awards.

Their new crown was announced at London’s Battersea Evolution amongst a crowd of celebrities, including Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas and actor Daniel Taylor.

Kuti’s Brasserie opened in Southampton in August last year after moving from Oxford Street, London.

Kuti said: “Anything I have won, I have won for the city.

"I work hard and I’m very happy. If you serve your best, you get the best results.

"From the bottom of my heart, this is the best quality food you can get here at my restaurant.”

British Curry Awards Founder, Enam Ali MBE, said: “British curry has expanded all over the world and we are very proud to be able to recognise that talent and success through the British Curry Awards.

"We are regarded as the Oscars of the curry industry but with that status comes responsibility.

“The British Curry Awards is your campaign organisation. We are a £4.5 billion success story but our curry restaurants have been closing their doors at the rate of two or three a day.

"But that has changed and it is thanks to all the media and politicians who have supported our campaign over the year.”
