TV CHEF Gary Rhodes OBE has died, aged 59.

The restaurateur, who fronted cooking shows including MasterChef and Hell's Kitchen, passed away on Tuesday.

In a statement, his family said: "The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE.

"Gary passed away last evening, Tuesday 26th November 2019, at the age of 59, with his beloved wife Jennie by his side.

"The family would like to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy during this time."

In 2006, the chef competed to represent the South of England in the BBC's Great British Menu, but lost out to Atul Kochhar.

He partnered Karen Hardy in the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008.

Alongside his TV work he also owned a number of restaurants, three of which were in the United Arab Emirates and two aboard P&O liners.

Rhodes was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2006.
