A PRISONER died of cancer following a short stay in a Hampshire hospice.
Patrick Michael Weedon was serving a sentence at Winchester Prison when he was taken to the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, in Andover, on October 2, and died on October 23.
An inquest was opened into his death at Winchester Coroner’s Court on Monday by acting area coroner Samantha Marsh.
Ms Marsh said that Mr Weedon had a “serious long-term health condition which he continued to suffer from” during his time at HMP Winchester.
A post mortem gave the preliminary cause of death as metastatic lung carcinoma.
Ms Marsh adjourned the inquest until April 16, 2020.
