IT IS the Romsey pub with two new landlords.

Chantelle Mason and her partner Charlie Leslie have been running the Bishops Blaize, Winchester Road, for almost two months now.

The pair pride themselves on running the pub, which is over 300-years-old, where “everyone is welcome”.

Chantelle, from Princes Road, said: “I have been working her for a year and a half and I was offered the opportunity by the woman who previously owned the lease.

“I have grown up here and have been coming to this pub since I was a baby; there used to be orange tiles on the floor, which must be under the carpet now.

“It is a proper locals pub and everyone is welcome here. It is so close to the station and we get a lot of commuters coming in, especially if their train is delayed.”

The dog-friendly pub serves all of their ales straight out of the barrel, which is a “unique” feature in the pub, according to Chantelle.

The 27-year-old added: “Customers can see the ale is fresh and we have fake handles behind the bar to show what we have on offer as well.

“Gin is popular in the pub as well and we have around 12 different types - everyone always like Gordon’s Pink Gin.

“We also offer basket food, such as pizzas and chips.”

The Bishops Blaize features Sky and BT Sport, which meant the watering hole was “rammed” during the final of the Rugby World Cup where England battled it out against South Africa, according to Charlie.

He said: “That day we had 80 people and you could not move in here. We were open during all the Home Nation games as well.”

The pub also offers a meat draw every first Sunday of the month where residents can enter the raffle for a chance to win a piece of meat.

There are usually ten prizes on offer for the meat draw.

The pub also hosts events, such as karaoke nights and live bands.

The next band, called Davey Jones Locker, will be playing at the pub on November 16 from 8pm.

Chris Egg, a 61-year-old from Fishlake Meadows, said: “It is full of characters and different types of people from all walks of life.

“It has a good atmosphere and when everyone gets to know you it is a bit like a family.

“My wife likes coming here and it is probably her favourite pub.”

Paul Jackson, a 33-year-old from Winchester Road, said: “I met my partner in here because she used to work in this pub.

“I am good friends with with Chantelle and Charlie as well and I have only been living here for a couple of years but I have been made so welcome.”

Lolie Borgars, a 51-year-old from Winchester Road, said: “I have been here about ten times and it is really friendly.

“It is dog-friendly as well and I won’t go to pubs that do not allow dogs.

“I love what they have done in the garden as well and during Beggar’s Fair they opened it up.”
