A WINCHESTER bar has commissioned an artwork from Don Lavelle, well-known for his views of the High Street.
Don is often seen with his canvases, easel and paintbrushes on the streets, capturing the architecture and city bustle.
Over the summer Don, who paints directly from life, has been on the High Street creating a large scale canvas depicting Wintonians going about their daily lives.
His latest work was a commission for Greens Bar & Kitchen, on Jewry Street, and it has now been completed and prominently displayed.
Peter Neave, the owner of Greens, is delighted with the painting. He said: “Don has captured the buzz of the Winchester High Street we know and his art has done justice to the character of the street and its people.”
He added that Don’s work perfectly complements Greens interior which has an emphasis on individuality, local identity and conviviality.
Manager Liz Dear says she and the staff often hear customers’ positive comments about Don’s works already hanging in Greens and she is sure that both regular and new customers will enjoy having the opportunity to admire and appreciate this latest painting whilst relaxing with their drinks and food.
