A MAN who drove dangerously and assaulted two police officers has narrowly avoided a prison sentence.

Johnny Delaney, 21, admitted dangerous driving in an 54-reg Audi on the A32 at Corhampton and in Free Street, Bishop's Waltham, on August 10.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting PCs Samantha Allen and Faye Cappleman in the same incident.

Delaney, of Fulmer Close, Hampton, south-west London, was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court. The case was transferred from Winchester to tie in with other cases last Friday.

The judge imposed an eight-month jail term suspended until September 10 2021 with the requirement to do 50 hours unpaid work.

Delaney was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to take an extended re-test.

There was no separate penalty for the assaults on the police officers.
