POLICE are investigating the death of a man in a flat fire in Winchester.
The fatal fire at a domestic property on Whiteshute Lane, St Cross, is not being treated as suspicious.
The body of a 57-year-old man was found inside the property after the alarm was raised around 3.20pm yesterday, Tuesday November 5.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service.
Two crews from Winchester and one from Eastleigh attended the incident in the first-floor flat.
The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus’, one hose reel jet, and one main jet.
An investigation by Hampshire Constabulary is being conducted to establish the cause. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
A police spokesman today said his next-of-kin has been informed. The dead man has not been publicly named.
Police and the fire service are investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
A file will be prepared for the coroner.
