THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised from a weekend beer festival.
The third annual Romsey Beer Festival, run by the Round Table, raised approximately £3,500 after attracting hundreds of residents who were treated to 30 different types of beers and ciders.
Approximately 470 beer lovers flocked to the sold out event, which took place on November 1 and 2, featuring live music from Kasbah Swing Band and Flaxen Hill.
The money raised from the beer festival will be added to the funds collected over the Christmas period by the Round Table, the Santa Sleigh collections and Mummers plays, and distributed to nearby charities and good causes in January.
Beer Festival organiser, Euan Douglas said: “This was our biggest and best Beer Festival yet – and it required a bigger team pulling it altogether.
"As well as all the members of Round Table, we need to thank Flack Manor Brewery who help so much with the logistics in the build-up, the Three Tuns pub for lending us their keg dispenser so that lagers could be added to our line-up this year, Signs Express for helping with our advertising and Donna Italia for keeping the drinkers fed with their wonderful pizzas.”
For the first time, Romsey Beer Festival issued awards to notable beers and ciders from over the weekend.
She Sings Sea Shanties, by Fallen Acorn Brewing Co., scooped the First Firkin Finished award - the first beer that ran dry.
The Best Beer of the Festival award, voted for by guests over the weekend, was presented to New England, by Urban Island Brewing.
Chalk Stream, by Meon Valley Cider, was crowned the winner in the Best Cider of the Festival award. This was also voted for by guests over the weekend.
Over the past two years, more than £4,000 has been raised for Romsey charities from the beer festival.
The Mayor gave Round Table use of Crosfield Hall for free and local brewery Flack Manor supported the event by lending equipment as well as helping other breweries store beer in advance of the festival.
The Beer and Cider Festival is the first part of Romsey, Chandler’s Ford & District Round Table’s fundraising efforts for 2019.
