QUAYS Swimming and Diving Complex has been rewarded with a hattrick of coveted prizes at the recent Swim England Awards;

Club of the Year, Long Service Award in Aquatics and Diver of the Year were all given to the Southampton Diving Academy (SDA) who are based at the complex.

Matt Wale, Active Nation Business Manager said: “Active Nation are delighted with the national recognition from Swim England, it highlights the fantastic work being achieved from all involved within our Diving Programme.”

The club is one of Great Britain’s five Talent Development Centres and has over 130 members ranging from ages 7 to 60+. The SDA has produced 10 international divers in the 2019 season alone at both Junior and Senior level.

Our aim as a charity is to promote enjoyment of physical activity – we must harness the talent, expertise and passion of those leading elite sport and transfer this into grassroots, encouraging all ages to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of leading active lifestyles and learning new skills.”

Diving Development Manager Lindsay Fraser won the Long Service Award in Aquatics.

Fraser was a British Olympic Team member in 1980 and 1984, then later became British Team Manager for the Olympics in 2000 and 2004. Fraser was also a Team GB coach in 2008 and 2012.

Fraser has lead the SDA since 2000 and has coached 20 international divers and 4 Olympians.

The Diver of the Year award went to 17-year-old Tanya Watson. Watson's 2019 season boast two finalist positions; one in the Grand Prix in Germany and one in the European Championships in Ukraine. Watson took part in her first World Championships in South Korea and has gained invaluable experience leading into 2020. The teenager already has 9 years of diving experience al
