THESE photographs show the aftermath of a high-speed police chase in Basingstoke.

Last night a number of police cars including unmarked vehicles were pursuing suspects in a black Jeep.

Dramatic dashcam footage obtained by the Gazette showed motorists in queued traffic on the A339 narrowly moving out of the pathway of the oncoming vehicles.

The driver of the black Jeep mounted the grass verge on the central reservation and drove at speed down the inside past stationary cars as it was pursued by a number of vehicles.

Photographs show the black Jeep had been cornered by the officers, with its front end smashed and airbags inflated.
The front of the police car was also damaged.

An unmarked BMW has been badly damaged on its passenger side with fragments of glass scattered across the carriageway.

It has been confirmed that the officers in pursuit of the vehicle are from the Metropolitan Police.

A tactic often used by trained officers in pursuit of a car is to road block to prevent the suspect from getting away.

The Met Police was also afforded powers back in 2017 to ‘ram’ mopeds during high speed chases in a bid to curb the rise of violent crime.

Police are yet to release a statement about the incident, though a source confirmed to the Gazette that it was a police pursuit conducted by Scotland Yard.

The Met Police and Hampshire Constabulary have both been contacted for comment.
