A PENSIONER has admitted to sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Overton.

Robert Banning, aged 76, pleaded guilty to seven charges in total at Winchester Crown Court today (Wednesday).

He admitted to four counts of sexual activity with a child, one charge of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of making indecent images of children.

The crimes were committed between August 1, last year, and February 15, this year.

Prosecuting, Rob Welling, said that he had read over 600 pages of text messages between the girl and Banning which included threats made by the defendant.

The case against Banning, of Newbury, was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and he was released on bail but must sign the sex offenders register.

Banning will be sentenced on November 21 at the same court.

Judge Keith Cutler said that these were “appalling offences” that Banning had carried out.
