AN INVESTIGATION is ongoing into the events which led to a Biffa bin lorry smashing into the front of a Stanmore property last week.

As previously reported, the waste collection vehicle ploughed into two cars before coming to a halt when wedged in the semi-detached house in Drayton Street just before 8.30am on Tuesday, October 8.

Following an extensive operation the vehicle was removed and since then the damaged property has been boarded up and fenced off.

During the incident, the dustcart is believed to have narrowly avoided children who were walking to school and had to take evasive action before the lorry careered across several driveways and into the house.

The city council confirmed in a short statement to the Chronicle, almost a week after it was first requested, that they are still investigating the incident.

A spokesman said: “Support continues to be provided to the residents affected by the incident and those living in the property have been temporarily rehomed.”

A Biffa spokeswoman said their investigations were also continuing and they would not be providing any further comment.
