IT APPEARS the Jack Wills store in Winchester has closed its doors for good.

The chain's High Street premises has remained locked and gated up since mid-morning on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the doors were open but the store had no stock on show.

The company, which Sports Direct acquired out of administration in August for £12.8million, has just less than 100 stores across the country.

As previously reported, closing down signs were placed in the windows of the Winchester store in September, with posters saying all stock was reduced.

Four other Jack Wills stores in Bluewater, Oxford, Newcastle and London Gatwick airport were earmarked for closure.

Last month a Sports Direct spokesman said: “We are continuing to work hard with our landlords to try to keep as many stores in the existing portfolio open.

“Unfortunately, it has not been possible to save these five stores.

“Where possible, Sports Direct is committed to finding new roles within the group for all affected Jack Wills staff.”

Jack Wills joins the likes of Cath Kidston and Pandora in shutting their stores in Winchester this year.

The Chronicle has contacted the company for comment.
