TEENAGE girls had an unknown substance thrown in their faces during a suspected acid attack in Culcheth.

The teens were near to the Sainsbury’s store on Common Lane shortly after 9.30pm last night, Friday, when they were approached by an unknown male.

This man then threw the liquid at the group, some of whom were taken to hospital after the incident.

They have all since been discharged, having suffered no serious injuries.

The suspect has not yet been located by police.

He is described as being white and aged in his late 40s or 50s with greying hair, and was wearing a black puffer jacket.

Sergeant Neil Bradley said: “I would like to reassure the community that this is believed to have been an isolated incident and we are committed to doing everything we can to establish the identity of the man involved.

“Thankfully none of the teenagers sustained any serious injuries as a result of the incident, and we will be speaking with them to establish exactly what has taken place.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing.”
