MOTORISTS are being warned of seven major sets of roadworks which are taking place across the South of England.

The road improvements will take place from October 14 until October  20 and will affect Southampton, as well as parts of Hampshire.

Highways England have said they aim to carry out the works with the aim of "causing as little disruption as possible".

These are the roadworks that are set to go ahead:

M27 junctions 3 to 4 Southampton, Hampshire:

Bridge reconstruction Work to maintain journeys and ensure road user safety by replacing the Romsey Road bridge near junction 3 continues this week. A 50mph speed restriction is in place on the M27 east and westbound carriageways beneath the bridge until winter.

In addition, the M27 eastbound between junctions 3 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 October for 5 nights.

A signed diversion will be in place via the A3057 and A27. M27 junctions 4 Southampton to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: smart motorway Work to improve journeys by converting the M27 into a smart motorway continues this week. 24-hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction will be in place until 2021.

M4 junctions 3 at Hayes to 12 at Theale, Berkshire: upgrade to smart motorway

Work to improve journeys by converting the M4 into a smart motorway between Junctions 3 at Hayes to Junction 12 at Theale continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place for sections of this stretch of the M4. Carriageway and slip road closures are planned as follows, all fully closed overnight (traffic management will usually be rolled out from 9pm and taken off by 6am).

Some additional closures have been booked in for this weekend:

• The M4 eastbound carriageway between junctions 4b (M25) and 3 (Hayes) will be closed overnight on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the local network.

• Junction 8/9 – the westbound exit slip will be closed overnight on 11 October.

• Junction 10 – the eastbound entry from A329M southbound (slip road 4) will be closed overnight on 11 October.

• Junction 10 – the eastbound exit slip to the A329M southbound (slip road 7) will be closed overnight on 12 October.

• Junction 12 – the eastbound exit slip will be closed overnight on 11 and 12 October.

The following closures planned for the week commending Monday 14 October:

• The M4 eastbound carriageway between junctions 12 (Theale) and 11 (Reading) will be closed overnight on Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Friday 18 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A4 and the A33.

• The M4 eastbound carriageway between junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead) and 6 (Slough/Windsor) will be closed overnight on Wednesday 16 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A308M, A308 and A332.

• The M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 6 (Slough/Windsor) and 8/9 (Maidenhead) will be closed overnight on Thursday 17 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A308M, A308 and A332.

• The M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead) and 10 (Wokingham) will be closed overnight on Wednesday 16 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A404M, A4, A3290 and A329M.

There are also slip road closures booked as follows:

• Junction 10 – the westbound entry slip from the A329M northbound (slip road 2) will be closed overnight on 14 October.

• Junction 10 – the eastbound entry slip from the A329M southbound (slip road 4) will be closed overnight on 16 October.

• Junction 10 – the eastbound entry slip from the A329M northbound (slip road 5) will be closed overnight on 14, 15, 16 and 18 October.

• Junction 10 – the eastbound exit slip to the A329M southbound (slip road 7) will be closed overnight on 17 October.M

A3 Hogs Back (Guildford), Surrey:

Road markings Work to renew the road markings where the southbound link from the A3 merges with the A31 Farnham Road takes place this week. The A3 southbound link to the A31, and the A31 westbound from its junction with Down Lane will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 16 October. The A31 Farnham Road eastbound carriageway will remain open.

A signed diversion will be in place down the A3 to Compton, then north along the B3000 to access the A31 at Puttenham.

A3 Hogs Back, Hampshire to Longmoor, Surrey: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the A3 continues this week. The A3 southbound carriageway from the A31 Hogs Back to Longmoor will be closed overnight, between 9m and 6am, from Thursday 17 October for 2 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via the A31 and A350.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: slip road widening and street lighting

Work to improve the street lighting and safety by widening the southbound slip road at the University Interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes are in place on the A3 northbound carriageway and University exit slip road 24 hours a day until March 2020.

In addition, the A3 northbound carriageway from Compton to the Stoke Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 14 October. A signed diversion will be in place via the B3000, A31 Hogs Back/Farnham Road, Guildford and the A25.

A27 Bedhampton, Hampshire: street lighting

Work to ensure safety by maintaining the street lighting around the Harts Farm junction takes place this week. The A27 eastbound carriageway from the A3(M) junction to the A3023 Langstone junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 October for 5 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via Bedhampton and Havant.

A34/A303 Bullington Cross, Hampshire:

Road markings Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings at the Bullington Cross junction takes place this week. The A34 southbound exit slip road, the westbound A30 link, the A303 westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 18 October. Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A34 Oxford, Oxfordshire: bridge repairs Work to repair the surface of the A34 northbound carriageway over the Botley flyover starts this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from 8pm on Friday 18 October through to 5.30am on Monday 21 October. A signed diversion will be in place via the Oxford ring-road.

In addition, lane 2 of the A34 southbound carriageway will be closed over the flyover to provide a safe working zone for our workforce.

A404 High Wycombe to Marlow, Buckinghamshire:

Resurfacing Work to resurface sections of the A404 north and southbound carriageways between Marlow and High Wycombe starts this week. The A404 southbound carriageway from the M40 to Marlow will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 October for 3 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via Wycombe Road.

In addition, lane closures will be in place on the northbound carriageway and the northbound exit slip road at the Marlow junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 17 October for 5 nights (Monday to Friday only).
