WINCHESTER’S highly-anticipated community project is open for business following an official launch on Sunday.

The Handlebar Cafe and bike workshop is the brainchild of a group of local teenagers who five years ago worked with SPUD to design a bicycle-themed eatery on the old railway track over Garnier Road.

More than 1,000 people attended the ceremony, and the five teenagers Alex Grice, Sebbie Mc-Donald Maskell, Nick Tsangaris, Joshua Snow and George Judge, cut the ribbon with the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Eleanor Bell.

Joshua Snow said: "It's such a strange feeling being able stand there and look at something that was just an idea a few years ago and has now become such an amazing project.

"I’ve learnt so much from being part of this amazing project and really looking forward to starting my degree in Architecture."
