PART of the A303 has been closed after a man suffered serious injuries in a multi-car crash.

Police, fire, and ambulance crews are currently on the scene of the incident, on the eastbound carriageway, west of Winterbourne Stoke.

The man was airlifted to hospital.

As a result, the A303 has been closed at the Deptford junction.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at around 3.50pm to attend a road traffic incident on the A303 Eastbound in the area of Winterbourne Stoke, Salisbury.

"We’ve sent various resources to the scene including a land ambulance and an air ambulance.

"Ours crews are treating one patient with help from a team of South Central Ambulance Service responders."

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson added: "We are currently in attendance at a collision on the eastbound carriageway, west of Winterbourne Stoke.

"Fire and ambulance are currently on scene and the eastbound carriageway is currently closed from the Deptford junction.

"One man is believed to have sustained serious injuries."

Multiple vehicles have been involved in an incident, which occurred just after 3.50pm.

DIVERSION ROUTE

Highways England has issued the following details:

  • Road users are advised to follow the 'hollow black diamond' diversion symbol on road signs.
  • Exit the A303 eastbound at Deptford and take the A36 northbound towards Warminster.
  • Between Knook and Heytesbury, turn right onto the B390 eastbound towards Shrewton.
  • At Shrewton, turn right onto the A360 southbound.
  • Follow the A360 southbound to re-join the A303.
