AS THE early nights start to draw in there is still plenty to enjoy around Hampshire. Here is our list of 10 events taking place across the county this weekend

1 In Winchester...

A FUN-packed weekend celebrating harvest and exploring the current environmental issues facing farmers, Hampshire and the country as a whole is coming to Winchester Cathedral.

Enjoy farm animals, falconry displays, tractors, a Hampshire Fare market, and a Big Top marquee full of topical displays, speakers and organisations who are working towards a more sustainable future.

Plenty of local food and drink will be available for all to enjoy.

This is a free event.

2 In Romsey...

HAPPY Halloween at Paultons is kicking off this weekend.

It is the friendliest, most frightful fun fest in the UK; with over 4,000 pumpkins, ghostly scenes, spooky meet and greets, Freaky Fancy Dress competition, the thrilling Little Monsters Ball finale to finish each day and Paultons fun rides and attractions all included in the price.

Paultons will be festooned with thousands of pumpkins and straw hay bales to complete the eerie autumnal scene and there will be plenty of opportunities to meet and greet our spooky, but ever-so-friendly, characters, including Pickles the Pumpkin, at intervals around the park.

3 In the New Forest...

HEAD over to the New Forest this Sunday for a day of activities for all.

Find yourself on a Woodland Adventure Day with the New Forest Activities team.

During the morning you’ll get chance to light a fire and build a woodland shelter before testing your aim with a bow.

In the afternoon you’ll explore some of their woodland Low Ropes challenges before taking to the trees for your High Ropes adventure.

Attendees should take a packed lunch and weather appropriate clothing.

4 In Romsey...

WITH walks in the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and a display in the Education Centre, the diversity of garden and woodland fungi will be shown to you by experts this weekend.

Tours from the Hampshire Fungus Recording Group will be held– and past walks have revealed over 80 different types of fungi.

Field trips at 10.30am and 2pm will be bookable on the day on a first come basis.

Free entry to the exhibition with garden admission.

5 In Chawton...

EVERYONE has a story to tell.

An informal session at Chawton House on Saturday will engage your powers of observation and imagination, stimulating ideas and thought-provoking discussion.

You may be a complete beginner, or a more experienced writer in need of inspiration.

A series of writing exercises, both fun and practical, will develop ideas into words and encourage you to continue with writing projects beyond the workshop.

This is a wonderful opportunity to unleash your creative side in the beautiful environment of Chawton House and grounds.

6 In Sparsholt...

JOIN Hampshire Food Hero and chef Andrew Mackenzie at Lainston House this Saturday for a morning making the perfect roast beef, roast potatoes and delicious seasonal vegetables.

Learn tricks of the trade and hints and tips that will ensure your roast is stress-free and perfect every time.

The half day course, priced at £85 per person, includes lunch with a glass of wine in the cookery school.

7 In Winchester...

AUTUMN Comedy Gala is returning to Theatre Royal Winchester this Saturday

Jan Ravens, Andrew Doyle, Lauren Pattison and James Gill will hit the stage.

Jan is one of the UK's most successful impressionists.

She is a long-running star of BBC's Dead Ringers and was recently a panellist on ITV's The Imitation Game.

Lauren Pattison sold out her debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her critically acclaimed show Lady Muck.

Andrew Doyle is a writer and comedian, the man behind the twitter sensation Titania McGrath.

James Gill is a comedian, presenter, warm-up artiste and writer, establishing himself as one of the most popular compères on the circuit.

8 In Portsmouth...

AFTER its successful events in 2015, 2016 and 2018, Portsmouth's Dials festival returns this weekend - bringing some of the best national and local new music talent to venues along Albert Road.

Once again the festival will be working with local charity Solent Mind, to continue the discussion of mental health issues with both its audience and artists. as well as raising funds and awareness for the charity.

This year's line up includes The Blinders, Acid Tongue, Amy Vix, Another Sky, Arxx and Bash!.

The festival runs on Saturday between 12noon and 11.30pm.

9 In Totton...

SUNNYFIELDS will be going pumpkin orange again.

They have grown thousands of pumpkins for you to choose from: big ones, warty ones, white ones, blue ones, little munchkins and of course, lots of orange ones.

Head down to the farm this weekend, where you can pick your own pumpkin from The Pumpkin Patch or choose from a ready harvested display of thousands.

You can then carve your pumpkin in a special carving area, enjoy some great food from 'The Pumpkin Café', get your face painted, try a tractor and trailer ride and more.

10 In Winchester...

ARE you curious about Winchester?

Explore, discover and enjoy the city with two self-guided, quirky, heritage walks on the weekend, with an optional treasure hunt.

The walks loop around the better-known sights, as well as some of the more unusual and quirky ones, which combined make Winchester a fabulous place to explore.

You’ll get everything – detailed directions, maps, clues, and interesting snippets about the history of the city and the people that have shaped it.

Both walks start from the Cathedral.
