POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man assaulted a woman in a car.

Wiltshire Police says that the incident occurred shortly before midnight on Saturday near Ayleswade Road and Harnham Road, Salisbury.

The force said that the man and woman were known to each other.

Officers add that the victim, a local woman aged in her thirties, was not seriously injured.

Following the incident, a 37 year old local man was arrested on suspicion of assault and subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.
