Ralph Hasenhuttl has told his team there is no room for over celebrating their crushing derby day win at Pompey as he aims to use the momentum to cause an upset at Tottenham.

There were scenes of jubilation around the Saints squad on Tuesday night as they survived an intense atmosphere to deliver a 4-0 League Cup win over Portsmouth, the club’s first victory at Fratton Park for 35 years.

The win means so much to the supporters and the squad were clearly elated with their efforts after the match.

But Hasenhuttl has now urged them to quickly turn their attention to facing Tottenham on Saturday in the club’s first trip to Spurs’ new stadium.

“We were sitting in the dressing room and I said they can be very proud of what they have done because they will never forget this evening,” said Hasenhuttl.

“We go home and in the next round which is fantastic and at the weekend have a difficult game against Tottenham so there is not time for celebrating.”

Tottenham come into the game on some poor form.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won just five of their last 20 Premier League games and they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Colchester in midweek.

After the performances of some of his team at Pompey, Hasenhuttl has some tough selection calls to make.

That includes in attack where Danny Ings proved to be the hero as he scored a brace to help power his team to victory while Che Adams appears to be suffering a slight loss of confidence as his wait to open his Saints account continues.

“It’s important for every striker if you score,” said Hasenhuttl of Ings.

“He is fit now and he showed he can help us massively and I am very happy for him.”

Of Adams, he added: “He also tried to help the team and was working hard but still he is not getting the goal so far but I think it will come.”
