A NEW food court with a soft play area could be opened in Southampton should plans be approved by civic chiefs.

Proposals for a new food court with a cafe, bar and takeaway have been submitted to Southampton City Council to fill the land to the rear of the Broadway on Portswood Road.

The land, behind Quicksilver and Victory Gospel Church, will be used as a food court for both purchases and consumption of food and drink on and off the premises.

There are also details for a soft play area, an office and storage area.

It is also proposed that there will be improvements to the surface of the pedestrian access to the site through the use of new brick paving.

There will be an entire internal refurbishment of the existing building that is on the land to create a market-style food court.

The layout plans show that there will be room for seven food stalls and a café or deli arranged in a line starting next to the main entrance door.

Customer tables and benches will be located in the centre of the building.

Other facilities will include bars, a soft play area, office, stores and toilets.

The plans state that 18 new jobs will be created at the site and the food court will be open from 8am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 10pm on Sunday.

A decision is yet to be made on the plans.
