A SCREAMING man went on a rampage in a Hampshire high street, smashing car windows and gesturing that he had a bomb.

Police were called to Station Road in New Milton just before 12.30pm yesterday where a man was vandalising vehicles in a car park.

Terrified shoppers fled and took cover in local businesses on the high street, some of which locked their doors.

It has been reported that the man was gesturing that he had a gun and a bomb.

He was also jumping on cars, smashing wing mirrors off vehicles, and stopping traffic.

A police helicopter was seen above the town for almost an hour and the man was eventually arrested.

Two police officers arrived and one drew his taser, although it is not believed it was discharged.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said a 33-year-old man has since been arrested under suspicion of causing criminal damage.
