AN inquest has opened into the death of a woman at Eastleigh Railway Station.

Synthia Sin Yee Chung, 27, was killed when she was struck by a train on Bank Holiday Monday August 26.

Ms Chung, of Greenfinch Close, Eastleigh, was killed instantly, suffering multiple injuries and was initially identified at the scene through her driving licence and bank cards by British Transport Police Officer Maria Wheele.

Her identity was confirmed the following day by scene of crime officer Gunstone through finger print analysis, the inquest heard.

Consultant pathologist Balvinder Shoker conducted a post mortem and said the causes of death were multiple injuries and collision with a train.

Senior Coroner Grahame Short adjourned the inquest until Thursday December 19.

The incident caused severe disruption to rail services across the county.

It affected any people who were at the station. Daisy Hanley had been travelling from Hedge End to meet her boyfriend when the incident happened.

The 18-year-old said: “I am still in shock. When I got off the train I saw people on the platform crying. Luckily I did not have my young daughter with me because she would have been upset.”

Another passenger added: “It is a very sad thing to happen. I got to Eastleigh train station at about 8.45am and the train I was travelling on is still here two hours later.”

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Eastleigh Station after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Both officers from the BTP and Hampshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to us at 8.43am and is currently being treated as non- suspicious.

“Paramedics from the ambulance service also attended but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
