AFTER months of anticipation, Thursday, August 22 is the day GCSE results finally arrive.

Thousands of students across Denbighshire, Conwy and Gwynedd will be picking up their GCSE results today.

PUPILS at Ysgol y Berwyn, in Bala, have been celebrating their GCSE results.

Photographer Evan Dobson was in attendance as pupils picked up their results slips.

Gwynedd Council has congratulated the county’s pupils on their success in their GCSE results.

Cllr Cemlyn Rees Williams, the Gwynedd Council cabinet member for education, said: “These results are very good; the pupils are to be warmly congratulated."

EXCELLENT GCSE results have been achieved once again by pupils at St Brigid's School, in Denbigh.

The high achievers at the school this year include Sian Casilao, who achieved 10A*s, 2As and a distinction in additional maths.

Also in celebratory mood was Gio Alazo, who claimed 8A*s, 4As and a distinction in additional maths, while Daniel North secured 6A*s, 5As and a B.

Chair of the governing body Tony Hannigan said: "We are very proud of our pupils and congratulate them at this exciting time."

DELIGHTED Denbigh High School has celebrated an increase in the highest GCSE grades this year.

Students and teachers at Denbigh High School are celebrating a successful set of GCSE results, with a significant increase in the number of students achieving at least five A*/A grades, and an overall improvement in performance.

The number of students attaining five or more A*-C grades has exceeded the school’s target.

Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School

THE first pupils have attended Rhyl's new £23million Catholic School to pick up their GCSE results.


Pupils of Blessed Edwards Jones Catholic High School visited the new Christ the Word school to find out how they performed.

Mark Cohen, interim headteacher, said: "After the instability of recent years, created by the disproportionate changes in grade boundaries, we are delighted that the Welsh government, Qualifications Wales and the WJEC have introduced fairness into our system for our children.

YSGOL Emrys ap Iwan pupils have once again performed well in their GCSE examination results.


The school's head teacher Lee Cummins has been particularly pleased this year with an increase in pupils achieving five or more A* and A grades for the third consecutive year despite the new performance measures for this year in Wales. 


Among the top performers this year are Katie Cook, Kieran Williams, Sophie Truesdale, 
Alfie Downing, Katie Liddle, Declan Nichols, Mia Clabrough, Harry Gingell, Dylan Murray and Luca Bennett.

IT'S celebration time at Denbigh's Myddelton College once again!

Following on from excellent A-level results one week ago, where upper sixth leavers celebrated their exam successes with university entry, the school is again delighted to announce an outstanding set of results at GCSE level.

Some 78 per cent of our Year 11 GCSE students have achieved grades 9, 8 or 7, the equivalent of A* or A grades and 100 per cent secured grades A*-C.

PERSEVERANCE and endeavour has won out at Ysgol Brynhyfryd!

A third of all of the GCSE students at the Ruthin school have this year achieved five or more A* and A grades.

Rhyl High, Rhyl

THE Welsh Youth Parliament’s Vale of Clwyd representative was among those flying high after receiving their results at Rhyl High.


The school’s GCSE results have “delighted” head teacher Claire Armistead this year, with pupils earning five A* and A grades doubling on last year.


Among the high achievers this year is Head Boy Jonathan Dawes, who is also a tennis coach at Rhyl Tennis Club, a recipient of British Citizens Youth Award and Youth Parliament member who earned six A*’s, six As and two B’s.

Welsh Government

EDUCATION Minister Kirsty Williams AM has congratulated GCSE students on their results, as overall performance across Wales has improved.

This summer’s results marks the end of the significant GCSE reform journey undertaken in Wales.

The last seven of reformed GCSE subjects are awarded this year, including history, computer science and Welsh second language.

The overall performance has increased, with 62.8 per cent achieving A*-C grades overall (up by 1.2 per cent).

Ruthin School, Ruthin

THE best GCSE results ever have been achieved by pupils at Ruthin School.

The students have, yet again, achieved outstanding results and this year, over 70 per cent of all grades are at A*-A.

Last year, this figure was at 65 per cent.

Over half of all grades (54 per cent) were at A*, a large increase from the 43 per cent achieved in 2018.

THE high GCSE standards of previous years have been improved on at Ysgol Glan Clwyd.

Welsh and English results at the St Asaph school are the best ever this year.

Some 91 per cent achieved A*-C grades in literacy.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd is also very proud of the Skills Challenge Certificate results, which is an assessment of the pupils employability skills, with 87 per cent achieving A*-C.
