GUNSHOTS echoed through what is usually a quiet village near Alresford as dozens staged a major battle.
The Sealed Knot, a national historical reenactment society, brought the Battle of Cheriton back to life over the weekend – 375 years on from the original conflict.
Wearing life-like costumes, the group demonstrated realistic warfare using a range of weapons, from rifles to cannons.
Spectators could try archery with the Alton and Four Marks Archery Club, and browse charity craft stalls, which were set up by Naomi House, the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.
The Battle of Cheriton in 1644 was an important Parliamentarian victory in the English Civil War, helping to secure southern England.
The Sealed Knot’s reenactment was held on the very same battlefield, which remains much the same to this day.
There were also reenactors from other wars including the American Civil War of the 1860s.
