A SCHEME for almost 20 new homes in Amesbury has sparked backlash from residents, as a large area of green space would be lost.

The plans, put forward by applicant Blue Leaf Projects, proposes to build 19 houses – 10 two-beds and nine three-beds – on land which scores of Lyndhurst Road homes back onto.

This has raised concern amongst locals, who are worried about overcrowding, overlooking, and loss of light.

One Lyndhurst Road resident, Stephen Williams, also said the new scheme will cause traffic problems – and could potentially put pedestrians in danger as no footpath into the development is proposed.

Salisbury Journal:

He said: “The junction from the proposed site onto Ringwood Avenue will cause issues with traffic following north along Ringwood Avenue from Lyndhurst Road.

“I do not believe a ‘virtual’ footpath by the garages is acceptable, and the end result will be a tragic accident involving children.”

Other residents said they were concerned at the height of the new homes, with one worried about the “loss of my family’s privacy”.

Amesbury Town Council also put forward objections to the scheme.

Councillors reiterated the concerns expressed by residents, as well as adding that they were worried about space for visitors to park, which Blue Leaf confirms there are five of.

However, the developer says the “modern” scheme’s design has been created following advice from Wiltshire Council during its pre-application.

This saw the number of homes reduced from 21, and a “less cramped” design implemented.

As part of its design and access statement, it said: “The final scheme will deliver much needed housing to the area through a design that is respectful and representative of the locality.”
