A LOCKED cabinet containing three shotguns were stolen from a house in Lymington.

A black Range Rover parked outside the property in Snooks Lane was also taken by burglars on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene at 1.45pm.

Three people were seen arriving at the house in a grey or blue BMW 3 series estate.

No ammunition was taken in the burglary, but police are trying to track down the stolen firearms "as soon as possible".

Detective Sergeant Simon Price said: “At this stage we believe that this was a targeted burglary which has seen three shotguns and the Range Rover stolen.

“Our priority is to locate these items, and we have a number of officers working on this investigation to recover them as soon as possible.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a grey or blue BMW 3 series in the area that day, or the Range Rover, which has a registration that ends ALS, since it was stolen.

“If you have been approached and offered similar items for sale then please get in touch. Any information you have could really help with our investigation.”

He added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to remind anyone who has licensed firearms in their homes to double check that they are locked up and in a secure place.”
