A SOUTHAMPTON college is closed this morning due to a power cut.

Woodlands Community College wrote on social media that students from years 7, 8 and 9 would not be able to attend the school early this morning.

The school has now issued an update saying that year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students should arrive at 10.35am.

Exams planned for year 11 students will still go ahead.

A total of 1,550 residents in the SO18 and SO30 areas were affected by the power cut and the power is being restored in stages

SSE says a fault was reported at 7.26am and expects power to be restored at 10.30am.

A spokesperson from SSE said: "The power tripped off at 7.26am this morning.
"We are restoring the power in stages and there are still 147 customers waiting for power.
"We anticipate everyone will be back with power by 10.30am.
"We have engineers on site but they still haven't established the cause just yet.
"We apologise to anyone who was affected by this."
